Christchurch Infant School

Personal, Social & Health Education

At Christchurch Infants we aim to provide children with the knowledge, understanding, attitudes, values and skills they need in order to reach their potential as individuals and within the community.

Our PSHE programme promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of children at Christchurch Infant School, preparing children for the opportunities, responsibilities and equipping them for later life.  We follow a programme of study called JIGSAW. Throughout the curriculum, they learn to understand and respect our common humanity; diversity and differences so that they can go on to form the effective, fulfilling relationships that are an essential part of life and learning.

In our school we choose to deliver Personal, Social, Health Education using Jigsaw, the mindful approach to PSHE. This scheme also helps us to deliver the expectations in relation to RSE and Healthy lifestyle.

As well as following this scheme, at Christchurch Infants, we aim to tailor our learning and curriculum to the needs of the children and the community in which they live. As such, we are currently developing links to add Railway safety as well as Beach Safety to the learning opportunities.

Do we celebrate PSHE in other ways?

Yes, we do! We also celebrate PSHE is lots of other exciting ways too. Throughout the year, the whole school participates in a range of events to recognise and celebrate International and National Days/Weeks.

We feel that it is important for the children’s development to participate and celebrate these events. The events we celebrate in school are:

  • Children in Need

  • Anti-Bullying week, also known as Friendship Week – including Odd Socks Day

  • Children’s Mental Health Week

  • World Book Day

  • Dorset Bear Foundation

Please note: The events that we celebrate are chosen for the current cohort of children at Christchurch Infant School and may change year upon year.
