At Christchurch Infant School we aim to inspire a love of learning through our curriculum. Teachers plan lessons which aim to appeal to all learning styles, creating different opportunities and experiences to engage learners. Work is carefully differentiated to make sure all children can find success, while working towards their next steps in learning. We aim to ensure all children, of all abilities, can achieve their best. At our school equal importance is placed on both academic skills and social skills.
Our curriculum starts in Foundation, where children work towards achieving ‘Early Learning Goals’ taken from the document ‘Development Matters’. When children enter Years One and Two, they are taught using objectives set by the 2014 National Curriculum. Throughout our school we promote positive attitudes to learning. These are known as ‘The Signs of Success’. These are:
Our children are organised into Year Groups; Foundation, Year One and Year Two. In each Year group children learn as part of a class, as a group, with a partner or individually. Groups are sometimes arranged according to ability, and at other times are arranged as mixed ability groups. Children are encouraged to share their thinking with each other and to use talking partners as critical friends and as a sounding board. As children progress into Year Two, they are streamed into classes for some discrete subjects according to their ability. Each class has a Teaching Assistant who supports the learning, under the direction of the Class Teacher.
