Mathematics is an essential part of everyday life and we place great importance upon the acquisition of basic skills.

This subject consists of four main areas; number (which includes knowledge of place value, calculations and fractions), geometry, measurement and statistics.  Throughout all areas of maths, children are taught how to apply practically what they have learnt and solve mathematical problems.  We place a great emphasis on understanding the four main calculation operations, being able to calculate efficiently and being able to rapidly recall number facts.

Our aim is that children leave Christchurch Infants School confident with number, able to calculate and reason mathematically, but above all enjoying it!

We encourage parents to help their children by encouraging them to use simple number skills in everyday situations and through the use of games.

The school is very proud to have been awarded the Basic Skills Award for the third time, in recognition of its work in promoting and teaching high standards in Numeracy.

Our Mathematics Policy is currently under review, parents will be informed when is has been updated.
